Special Inspection Services, LLC was established in August 2017. We provide special inspections, materials testing, and laboratory services to the construction industry. This business focus makes us uniquely qualified to provide these services.
Under the watchful eyes of two registered professional engineers, we operate from two offices. Our offices are located in Owensboro and Ashland, Kentucky. From these offices, we are able to provide services across the Commonwealth of Kentucky as well as adjoining states.
In addition to professional engineers, our staff is comprised of knowledgeable technicians and support staff. Collectively, we have nearly 100 years of experience in the industry. We capitalize on this experience to bring our clients the level of service they require and deserve.
A graduate of the University of Kentucky, Kelly specializes in Structural Engineering. Kelly has over 20 years of experience working in a diverse range of projects. His work has included all phases of construction including conceptual design, fully engineered plans, remodeling, and special inspections. Kelly is a founding partner of Special Inspection Services, LLC.
With a degree in Construction Engineering Technology from Murray State University, Matthew has a strong background in the construction and engineering field. He has over 15 years of experience providing materials testing and inspection services, as well as managing a staff of technicians. Matthew serves as our Lab Manager/Senior Technician.
A University of Kentucky graduate, Cliff has over 20 years of diversified engineering experience including civil and structural engineering as well as land surveying. He has provided engineering services to residential, commercial, industrial, and heavy highway projects as well as providing special inspections. Cliff is a founding partner of Special Inspection Services, LLC.
Vivian began a career in engineering and materials testing over 30 years ago. She has worked on a diverse range of projects throughout the region. Her experience includes small developments through large scale commercial and industrial projects. Vivian also has significant experience in the materials testing lab performing various soils, concrete, & masonry tests. Vivian is a Lead Field Technician.
Coty graduated from Morehead State University with a degree in Construction Management and Civil Engineering Technology. Coty’s experience includes inspections and construction materials testing for a variety of construction projects. In addition, Coty also has experience in construction management, CAD design (computer-aided design) services, and land surveying. Coty is a Field Technician.
With several years of experience in the commercial and industrial fields, Anthony is well versed in the procedures that must be in place for a project to be completed smoothly. With welding and fabrication experience coupled with his materials testing knowledge, he works closely with contractors to ensure projects adhere to the required specifications. Anthony is a Field Technician.

Special Inspections
Special Inspections are identified in Chapter 17 of the International Building Code (IBC) and have been adopted by many jurisdictions.
The purpose of Special Inspections is to provide a third party inspector to review certain components of construction. This additional oversight improves communication between the design team and the contractor and enhances public safety by ensuring the structure complies with the design documents.

Nearly every construction element tested in the field, requires either pre or post testing in a construction materials laboratory.
